Dude… I just gotta say it. Blogging is no walk in the metaphorical park.
There are so many things you have to worry about. Stats. Reader feedback. Graphics. Post quality. SEO. And all the other stuff that takes forever to sort out.
But sometimes for some reason, we enjoy fluffing it up in our minds. Like, you know those times where you overestimate your abilities or an outcome? But then life turns around and says lol nope!!1! and you end up looking back at your work, asking yourself what happened. And, what’s more, almost every blogger goes through it.
But our expectations in the first place? Usually, they’re so outrageous and overachieving that I can’t help but laugh.
So, to end this (long) intro, let’s take a look at some ridiculous expectations we set for ourselves – and of course, their realistic counterparts 😉
WRITING POSTS
EXPECTATION
“I’m going to sit down out here with my music, my notepad and pen, and a steaming hot mug of coffee, and I’m going to Write! This! Post!” *Eye Of The Tiger plays as I whip out a post in 20 minutes*
REALITY
“I’ll just watch one or two more TV shows. Then I’ll go get the cat. Then I’ll get some Coke from the fridge because, what was I thinking, I don’t even like coffee. Then I’ll eat some lunch and watch more TV while I do that. Then I’ll do my chores, my homework, and have a whole spa day.
“….And then I’ll write the post. Uh-huh.”
*proceeds to take four hours of being distracted to write post*
NOT WRITING POSTS
EXPECTATION
“I had a wonderful day of writing, in which I completed four posts and had an amazing photoshoot with my planner! Now I am going to take a much-deserved break and catch a few hours of sleep.”
REALITY
“HOW IS IT THAT WHEN I WANT TO WRITE NOTHING HAPPENS, BUT WHEN I NEED TO DO OTHER STUFF, I WRITE??”
VIEWS
EXPECTATION
“Wow! I haven’t posted anything in a few days and my views are doing very well! Not to mention that I keep breaking my views record with each new post! Coolio!”
REALITY
“Why. Won’t. People. Look. At. My. Blog? Am I not a good writer anymore? Do I need to change my approach?? Are my titles lacking something everybody else’s has?? Or do people just not like me anymore???”
OUTLINING POSTS
EXPECTATION
*writes in-depth outline with 10 bullet points, and the beginnings of an introduction*
REALITY
*stares at paper with 0 ideas*
INTRODUCTIONS
EXPECTATION
Good morning, everyone! I was thinking about this the other day and it just made me so happy, I had to share it! I hope you like it and don’t forget to like & comment your thoughts! ❤
REALITY
Good morning, everyone! Unless you’re reading this at night, then good evening to you. And to those of you reading at lunch time, happy noontime I guess? But it’s not noon for people in other parts of the world. The stupid sun and earth keep moving and messing up time for everyone. What party poopers.
…anyway…
Yeah.. I especially hate that last one.
I do all of this. On a regular basis. So if you find yourself fishing for ideas or fretting about views… hang in there. You’re not alone.
Anybody else with me on the pesky expectations? Which one’s the worst or most common for you? Like I said, that last one is really awful for me 😦
How have you been enjoying When Words Fly so far? It’s been so fun meeting/getting to know you guys better these past few weeks! I really do love yall and I’m praying for each and every one of you ❤
Haha, exactly!

THIS. IS. SO. HORRIBLY. TRUE. Oh my land. Particularly all the stuff about procrastination. And opening the blog post introductions. (I hate intros… they’re so worthless. For me, at least.)
“what was I thinking, I don’t even like coffee.”
That was the line that officially killed me. 😂😂😂

kjsdkdhkh thank you!! intros ARE worthless >.> but I feel like I need them to at least set up a bit of context in the beginning??

Haha, so true! Especially the last one- intros are so hard to write! Like, do I start with a statement or a “hi” or a “good morning/afternoon/night?” Anyway, this was just overall relatable. 😂

I don’t even look at my stats anymore so when I do I can be surprised. 🤣 #relatable What kills me is the comments and follower counts and whether or not I spelled my url correctly on my featured image. 😂😂

I think you’re doing a great job with your blog, Abby! It’s light-hearted and fun, and easy to relate with. I don’t really have a blog, but I do struggle with the same things when it comes to writing my novels. I have all this great plans, but when it comes down to it, I just sit there going ……………………………… in my brain, until I turn on some music, get distracted by youtube videos, and end up watching Netflix…. oops, no wait, can I blame you for this now? ;D Actually, I just started using a free program called Cold Turkey, that lets me block certain websites for however long I want, so I’m not distracted by them, and can just write. It’s not a guarantee I will write, but it seems to be helping. Aaaand, enjoy you’re daily wall-of-text, lol 😀

First of all thank you!! That means SO MUCH to me ❤
LOL YES YES!!! It’s like whenever you want to write your brain goes ‘NOPE.’ And yes you may blame me for Netflix, that is probably my fault xD
😮 I should check that out since I practically have a degree in time-wasting. Ok ok I’m going to check that out asap.
STOP WORRYING ABOUT THAT!! I love your long comments!!!
