A few weeks ago, Em @ 2G2M asked me to do a collab with her. I was super hooped – her blog is so helpful and cute ahhh!! – and obviously I screamed ‘YES’.
We decided to post about the pros and cons of blogging. I volunteered for the bad, because who can pass up an excuse to rant about how awful their life is??
Wait, that’s not what the title says I’m doing?
Honestly, I was kind of stumped at the idea of talking about the cons of blogging.* It’s become a staple in my life, one of the first things I think of when I’m asked what I like to do.
But it can’t all be glitter and French fries, can it? There are definitely some struggles with keeping up a blog. That’s why we’re going to be talking about the hard things about blogging — because, sometimes, everybody struggles with the same things and all we can do is laugh and help each other out whenever we can.
*i wasn’t sure if i was going to be super sarcastic with this post or not??? i love blogging too much to outright hate on it lol
awkward people interaction
Sometimes talking to people online is like…. really awkward.
I have to admit, it’s not as hard as talking to people face-to-face, that’s downright terrifying for introverts everywhere. But, still. These people are strangers, and you’ve got to make a good first impression (want a super rad bio? i got you here).
Thankfully, there aren’t many crazy serial killers hanging around the blogosphere* so conversations aren’t that bad. But you know what the very highest amount of awkward is??
I’ve seen a lot of self promotion recently (but not on my blog yay!!) and it’s always just so cringy. What are people thinking when they post something like this on some random person’s blog:
“nice post! i have a blog and it wold be cool if you cheCked it out and followed!!1 heres the link: imvyingforyourattention.wordpress.com**”
….How do I even respond…?
It’s just so weird. I’m… I’m not sure what to say anymore.
*wait… do authors count as serial killers??
**im wondering if this is a real address hmm
coming up with post ideas
It takes a lot of time and effort to come up with creative and original ideas for your blog. With the large amount of bloggers on the scene, everyone has gotten into the pattern of repeating and doing the same things over and over. The struggle is to keep your content unique, entertaining, and still attractive enough to draw people from WordPress Reader.
I actually have a whole post on this topic, so there’s no need to go into a bunch of explaining here. Instead, go read this post 🙂
Sometimes technology is just…. weird. Despite my never-ending love for Zane, every mechanical thing might have a personal grudge against me. I can’t even access this site on my iPad. I’m sure someone somewhere is just laughing hysterically at my attempts to be tech savvy. *long sigh*
And not just the internet. WORDPRESS. WordPress has given me countless headaches and problems that take time and energy to undo, like not being able to access my account and other things. And the app??
Haha. Forget about it.
Posts, thankfully, are pretty basic to navigate and work. You’ve got all your necessary tools in the header bar, as well as tags and categories. But while that’s simple as heck, you’ve also got the HTML side. And, hahaha, I’m not a huge fan of HTML.
In the end, technology isn’t that bad. You improve and learn over time. So, if you’re a tech novice with seemingly no hope… it’ll be okay. Just have patience.
Lots and lots of patience.
actually writing posts
Okay, confession? I had a very hard time writing this post. Not the topics or ideas, but the actual words. The thought process doesn’t come naturally.
Sometimes in nonfiction, it’s difficult to turn my feelings into thoughts and then into words. And it’s SO FRUSTRATING. You know that awful time when you’re writing and can’t think of the perfect word?
It’s like that times twenty.
Me: *writing this right now* Topic of discussion: it’s hard to do the actual writing in blog posts. Why?
Brain: i donno. i just… dont like it.
Me: You have to have something in particular you don’t like about it.
Brain: i. dont. know. how. to. describe. . . .
Me: Okay you’re no help.
Why do you think I just wrote ↑that↑ little (not fictional) exchange?? Because I can’t think of the correct words to describe what I’m thinking!
So maybe blogging isn’t a walk in the park…. but the good certainly outweighs the bad. Don’t let the bumps in the road stop you from doing something you truly enjoy.
THANK YOU SO SO SOOOOO MUCH EM FOR DOING THIS COLLAB WITH ME! Em and Ivy are amazing, I just love their friendship ❤ If you’re not following their lifestyle blog, you’re missing out. And don’t you dare forget to read the other half of this collab.
By the way, are you doing NaNoWriMo this month?? My lovely girl Annie wrote SUCH AN AWESOME POST on Camp NaNo. We’ve been having a blast doing Camp together — sprinting, discussing plots, even going out for bubble tea. This girl is the bomb, and so’s her WIP! Go read here!
Good luck, my friends!
