5 PRICELESS SKILLS i’ve learned thru blogging // why blogging is worth the effort in the long run !!

I’ve been blogging for almost two years. Yes, I am that experienced. Fear me.

It has been quite the journey, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it has completely changed the direction of my life. Sometimes, I have to stop and catch my breath because, wow. I love it too much for words.

That being said, I’ve learned a thing or two in my extensive time here on the blogosphere, and not just about SEO or making a fun post. There are actually quite a few skills I’ve learned from this little blog that have been beneficial… in real life. Yes, the spooky dimension in which you must speak instead of typing. That real life.

I get a lot of questions asking if starting a blog is really worth it, if the payoff is worth the struggle, so today I’m happy to show you a few ways blogging has helped me out! Hopefully, anyone questioning starting their own blog will be convinced to take the leap and go for it. Let’s get started!

Blogging

the BLOGGER BOX // writing motivation + candy, yes please

Here’s a question: do you ever find yourself completely, utterly done with blogging? Cuz I do.

It’s a little LOT overwhelming. How one person can balance comments, posts, and social media all at one time… it baffles me, and I’M THE ONE WHO DOES IT. Idk man. It’s trippy.

There have been soooo many days when I just want to abandon blogging forever and spend my days in a cave full of pudding cups, blankets, and a never-ending Ninjago marathon (that wouldn’t be all too bad, actually). But, more often than not, all I need is a little motivation. Which is where The Blogger Box comes in.

A few weeks ago, The Blogger Box sent me one of their amazing blogging subscription boxes to review and BOY DID I FLIP OUT. It’s full of fun blogging goodies that made me want to write a bazillion blog posts on the spot.  I have the honor of showing you what my box included plus a review on the box itself. Let’s get started!

write christmas WINNERS

THIS IS IT YALL.

Two weeks and a whole lot of words later, we have the winners for Write Christmas!

I’m not exaggerating when I say each and every entry gave me sooo much joy. It’s so neat to see your actual writing when all that we usually see is blog posts. Plus, there were a lot of people I’ve never met who joined in! I can’t tell you how thrilled I was for this. Correction: am. I’m still excited.

It took a whole day of reading and re-reading to come up with a top three, and let me tell you, it was HARD. After a lot of thought, I believe I’ve found the stories that best utilize the prompts, your creativity, and Christmas cheer.

With that through, let’s give away our prize, shall we?

best (SELF-CARE) day ever!! // 10 ½ stress-relieving activities for creatives

Time is so limited nowadays.

I don’t know what happened, but somewhere over the past few years time has suddenly evaporated from under me, especially as a creative. Maybe it’s the digital age we’re in, all the things I have to do now, or maybe it’s just that I have a different perspective than I used to. But time really flies by.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the cycle of eat→school→work→sleep→repeat that we forget to take care of ourselves… which can be described as a one-way ticket to Burnout Avenue. Yuck.

ENTER THIS POST. Since we need a little break every so often but rarely ever seem to ‘have the time,’ I went looking for day-long things to do to give that creative energy a leg-up. And so this handy-dandy list was born! Here are ten activities that’ll nurture your creative soul while giving you a much-needed break.

3 Secrets To The Best School Year Ever™ (How I’m Owning College AND High School)

It’s almost Fall!

We’re so close, I’m already beginning to imagine it… raking leaves in the chilly autumn air. Salted Caramel flavored everything. S’mores and campfires and fuzzy jackets. And that means it’s time for…. a new school year!!!

*distant sobbing*

Yeah, I’m not even going to pretend I like school. I count it as something to be grateful for, sure, but it’s like the United States school system is trying to make us go insane.

I’ve been through this rodeo plenty of years now (tenth grade & dual enrolling in college, wohoo), and I can safely say that I’ve learned a thing or two about how to deal with the pressure without falling prey to a total identity crisis.*

*ok so maybe i have a mini identity crisis every now and again??? just a little one!!

Can’t Stop Won’t Stop (I’m Back!! + Photo Travel Diary)

*jumps out from behind a stack of books with potatoes and cowbells*

HI EVERYONE.

I’M BACK.

After my impromptu disappearance, I have returned!! And, even better… I’ve got the blogging bug again! A lot! Like, this hiatus thing might have worked too well, because I’ve been typing posts up like they’re nothing. So thank you for putting up with my absence. All of your comments were very sweet and very appreciated ❤

While I went on hiatus because of a tiny creative breakdown, I actually had a full vacation during this time away. And where else would this living Disney dictionary be than her favorite place on earth, Walt Disney World???

During our time there, I got a random surge of inspiration and wrote a poem about overworking myself and the recovery. It’s actually sort of good, so I decided to share it with you along with a few photos from my last day at Magic Kingdom.

Creativity & Its Worst Enemy Ever, Burnout (Also: I’m On Hiatus)

Some people see hiatuses as big no-nos.

I know the feeling well. Post views go down, followers stop filing in, and those oh-so-perfectly planned posts are left sitting unread in the draft folder. All the things we’re working for are kinda tossed out the window.

Well, I’m taking a hiatus. It’s pretty nervewracking, but, more than that, it’s badly needed.

I’ve been thinking a lot about productivity and what keeps people from accomplishing their goals lately, and creative burnout has been at the front of my mind. It’s this really stupid feeling of not being able to create anything for a variety of reasons. And I’ve caught the bug. *miffed look*

Burnout isn’t something talked enough about here on the blogosphere or anywhere in the writing world, really. It causes so much damage, but a lot of people don’t notice the pattern they’re going through: creativity rises and rises, falls dramatically, then rises again. A tiring loop, over and over.

So let’s be the ones to talk about it.
